François Joubert-Caillet (France) – viola da gamba
A song, though instrumental. French composers and their audience adored viola da gamba. Its character carries a huge spectrum of sound and expression possibilities, which was supposed to reflect the human emotions in the most perfect way. The instrument could complain, cry, have fun, dance – generally, talk about human nature and all its affections. The solo programme of the renowned gambist of the young generation – François Joubert-Caillet – is the pinnacle of the achievements of French literature for solo viola. It consists of compositions by the masters of this instrument, Mr De Sainte-Colomba, Marina Marais and Antoine Forqueray.
