Claudio Monteverdi zmarł w 1643 roku – tym samym, w którym urodził się Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Taki zbieg okoliczności mógłby z powodzeniem zostać wykorzystany przez numerologów, zważywszy na to, jak wiele punktów stycznych odnajdujemy w muzyce sakralnej obu tych wielkich XVII-wiecznych kompozytorów. Program Ave Maris Stella jest opowieścią o życiu i śmierci Maryi ukazaną przez pryzmat dwugłosowych motetów – polifonii zredukowanej do przejrzystej esencji, dzięki której widzimy w pełni misterną konstrukcję syntezy słowa i muzyki – nośników duchowej treści i emocji.
